Request a treatment — vets

Ask the nurses to give a treatment to an animal in the ward, e.g. flush a dental extraction site twice a day for 7 days.

New request

Request a nurse task — miscellaneous

Ask the nurses to do a task — bloods, ear swab, FIV test, a flu cat needing IVFT and so on. It shows on the Nurses page under the Welfare nurse's Miscellaneous tasks; microchip and UV checks go to the Processing nurse. To pass on a flagged case, use "Transfer to nurse" on the case below.

FAQ — vets

Quick answers for picking up cases, handing work to the nurses and handling results.

Cases

How do I pick up a case?

In Cases, press Pick up → on a card. To take several, tick their boxes and press Pick up N selected, sorted by location. Picking up opens the shift tool for that animal. If another vet got there first you'll be told it was skipped.

I picked a case up but got called away — how do I put it back?

Press Put back on the card. The case returns to its tier column for any vet to pick up. No reason is needed. Its time target keeps running from when it was first flagged, and the card shows "Put back" with the time.

How do I finish a case?

Press DONE once you have seen the animal. For a medication case the DONE panel asks for the medication details, and the case then waits for the nurses to make the label.

How do I hand a case to the nurses?

Press Transfer to nurse on a picked-up case, choose the task (blood test, ear swab, FIV test, IVFT, microchip, UV, other) and add a note. The case leaves the vet board and appears on the Nurses page. Microchip and UV go to the Processing nurse, everything else to the Welfare nurse.

How do I ask the nurses for a task without a case?

Use Request a nurse task — miscellaneous for one-off tasks, or Request a treatment for a course such as "flush twice a day for 7 days".

A nurse sent a result back to me — where is it?

It arrives as a normal shelter request in the Cases board, in the Emergency column if the nurse chose "Within 2 hours" or the Urgent column for "Within 12–24 hours". The problem line gives the test, the result the nurse wrote, and what is wanted from you: interpret the results, upload them to ShelterMate, or something else (see the comment). Pick it up and press DONE like any other case.

While this page is open, every new request — including a result sent back — raises a red NEW REQUEST banner with one count (for example “3 new requests sent through”), flashes the tab title and beeps. The sound is on by default; browsers need one tap on the page before they will play it, and the sound button at the top mutes it.

Disease tracking

What is being tracked and why does it matter to me?

Shelter staff pick a Suspected condition when they flag an animal. The eight reported signs are counted per space against its cages over the last 3 days (Disease watch on the staff page, full board on Stats). The aim is to spot a cluster in one space early, before a diagnosis, so you can act on isolation, cleaning and vaccination decisions sooner.

Should I correct the suspected condition?

The count reflects what staff noticed, not your diagnosis, so there is no need to edit it. Diagnoses such as Giardia are deliberately kept out of the sign list. Please make sure animals are flagged with some condition — blank ones are not counted.

What is the baseline?

Snapshots are taken nightly for a full year because disease changes with the season. After that, each period is compared with the same time last year. Until then rates are shown as they are, with no "high" line.
